Some of the more advanced features aren't accessible through the MP interface, but ArgusTV does have a web interface that allows you to access them through a Tablet, PC or Smartphone. This option allows you to specify to record the program around 6:30pm, skipping the later showing). Some of the features I use include setting series to record new episodes only, automatically recording by key words rather than full title which is useful where a series name varies in the EPG between episodes (for example if you want to record every cricket match, you can setup a schedule to record any program with cricket in the title, whereas the EPG name generally changes depending on who is playing, making series recording difficult), record episodes starting around a specific time (for example The Project is shown at 6:30pm and then later at night but usually isn't flagged as a repeat episode in the EPG. The scheduling capabilities are leagues better than MP. Fortunately the plugins Moving Pictures and MP-TVSeries make very good additions.Īs mentioned in a previous post I use ArgusTV instead of the MP TV server. MP does handle Movies and TV Series internally but is is pretty basic. The default Titan skin is pretty good, but I use the StreamedMP skin as I like it a lot better and found the editor easier to customise compared to Titan. MP does take a little bit of messing around with and tweaking to get setup and there are also some good skin editors available to customise the interface.

Personnaly my comskip.ini file isn't 100% accurate and sometimes won't pick up the gap at the transition from the end of one show to the start of another if it is small so I leave it on manual. MP can be configured to autoskip ads during playback or you can use manual skipping.

There is a plugin to run comskip for ad skipping. Once the EPG data is populated it will remain there if you restart the server. The MP TV Server will grab the EPG data from the DVB-T signal without having to change to the channel (provided you have dual tuners) but the initial seeding takes a few minutes. There are various options for series recording, however it won't distinguish between repeat episodes and new episodes (refer fo rmore info on scheduling).

The MediaPortal TV server allows you to adjust pre & post record lengths so that you can add a buffer to allow for show overruns.
